Analysis of rotary ventricular assist devices using CFD technique—A Review

With the increasing focus on reducing deaths because of heart ailments, considerable emphasis has been directed toward development ventricular assist devices (VADs) that work principle mechanical pumps for supporting an infirm heart. The VADs are used primarily to left ventricle, but their use extended right ventricle as well both ventricles simultaneously. In this connection, computational fluid dynamics (CFD) evolved efficient technique design, development, evaluation, and optimization VADs, enabling prediction operational characteristics detailed global local flow extensive set working environments even before manufacture actual device. CFD techniques yield valuable insight into VADs’ effectiveness enhances its behavior decreases risk associated with device, at same time manufacturing lead costs quite beneficially performance evaluation it still needs further hemolysis thrombosis models cannot be easily integrated simulations. This review article presents abrief introduction rotary a primary current status analysis axial which provide most suitable methods design VADs. It also identifies critical knowledge gaps outlines hematological difficulties encountered in integrating them CFD. Finally, future based scenario is included.
